I run and walk fast in my exercise program and since I do not run at a specific pace it has been hard and it took a number of adjustments to get it to pretty accurately measure my distance. Hope this has been helpful. It is pretty accurate now so I am a happy camper. This is the second footpod that I have owned as I lost the first one somewhere. I bought this over the newer version as I can turn it off and not use the battery when I am not exercising.
I would not run with out it. My only problem with it has been calibration. But I believe that is due to my non standard pace so I really cannot blame the footpod for this. I thought that this was an absolute requirment since I intended to leave it on my shoes all the time and I do wear them alot when I am not exercising. I love my Garmin 305 and have owned it since June 7, 2007.
I exercise at the YMCA a lot and this has been great at keeping my records. I leave the pod on my athletic shoes all the time since it takes time to take it on and off and I do not even remember that it is there.
However, it is smaller and lighter than the older model (it uses a "button" battery rather than an AA battery), and also has a lace clip for easy and quick removal from your sneakers.Bottom Line: if I were buying a footpod for the first time, I would buy the newer unit (which has received mostly positive reviews).Update November 12, 2009: I have been using the newer unit now for several months (and reviewed it on Amazon) and am very pleased with it. I definitely recommend buying the newer version of the foot pod regardless of which model Garmin Forerunner you use. But for some people it might be.You should be aware that Garmin now has a newer version of the footpod that will work with the 305, but was introduced for the newer 405 and 405cx. However, I don't even feel it when I run outside, or care what it looks like, so for me this is not a consideration. This is easy to calibrate, and works flawlessly in conjunction with my 305. I have used this product for over a year with my Garmin Forerunner 305 so that I can track my running indoors on the treadmill at the gym. You do need to remember to replace the single AA battery periodically (there is no low battery warning light) to avoid finding yourself on the treadmill at the gym and having the unit just stop working due to a dead battery.I gave this only four stars instead of five since you need to lace it to your sneakers, and it cannot be easily or quickly taken on and off. I just bought one for the 405cx that I ordered, but have not yet had a chance to test it.
I would by another when the time comes. I switch back and forth between running indoors and out so I don't need it constantly on my shoe. The item was delivered promptly and preforms as described. The only downside I have for it is it would be nice if there was a quick way to get the pod off of my shoe when I don't need it. But other than that it is sturdy and works right out of the box.
It is not nearly as user-friendly as the hardware in your wrist and foot are. A definite step up from Nike + technology. The product is very easy to integrate with the Garmin GPS watch. It's ready to go out of the box and can be calibrated to be very accurate. The only downside to the system is the software used to log your miles.
This pod is WONDERFUL both on the treadmill and exercising outside. A lot of treadmills speed up and slow down at random, this Foot Pod allows me to be percise. FIVE STAR ***** The Garmin Indoor Foot Pod Accessory for Forerunner 305 is one of the best things I've gotten in a long time. Now when I'm on the treadmill, it gives me the ability to get the correct MPH and distance and also, it allows me to keep track and chart it on my computer. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.
